The psoas is a major muscle that influences the stability and function of the spine, pelvis and hips. Shortness, stiffness and weakness in the psoas can lead to pain and muscle imbalances that throw off your ability to practice yoga and fully participate in recreational, work and home activities.
Join Michelle Downing DPT for this workshop that explores yoga based strategies to release tension in the psoas. This workshop is appropriate for all levels from yoga students to yoga instructors. Learn the basic anatomy of the psoas, iliacus and surrounding structures. Explore passive and active poses to reduce tone and over firing of the psoas. Learn how to modify standing poses to lengthen or engage the psoas depending upon how your psoas is functioning. You will leave with a simple home program that you can do to restore balance to your body.
