It has been and continues to be a challenging time in all of our lives in many ways. We are fortunate that through continuous efforts made each day to provide a safe and healing environment at our PT clinic in Burlington, VT, we are able to come in and work with clients each day.
Recently the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services proposed a reduction in their reimbursement to ALL physical therapists for services rendered, no matter the treatment setting. The proposed cut rate is 9% and is scheduled to begin in January 2021. One of our physical therapists, Meagen Satinsky, has met with legislative aides and has written letters over the past few months to oppose this proposed cut, but a few voices are simply not enough. Congress needs to hear from you!
It doesn’t matter whether or not Medicare or Medicaid is your provider. These organizations often establish the blueprint for other insurance companies to model their reimbursement after, meaning additional cuts are just down the road and threaten the livelihood of the profession of Physical Therapy (PT) in the US. If you or someone you know has ever participated in, worked with, or benefitted from PT, this is your issue too. At a time when their services and skill are required, specifically with facilities and patient populations who rely on Medicare and Medicaid for their health benefit, reducing reimbursement will be extremely costly for everyone.
In an effort to keep this post brief, we are asking today that you take a few minutes to read about the issue and via the link provided here, send a (pre-fab or otherwise) letter to your federal legislator(s) to STOP cuts to physical therapy. It will impact the future of the profession and the quality of care patients and clients like you will receive. We encourage you to share this with your family, friends, PT’s, neighbors, and anyone else who supports health and wellness in your community.
Thanks for your time and for spreading the word.
