Our yoga schedule for Memorial Day: One class. We will be holding just one class on Memorial Day. It will be a special Seva* fundraiser at 12:15, our normal Lunchtime class time. All other yoga classes and Physical Therapy will be closed.
Beth Kruger will be teaching the class (class cards/unlimiteds as well as drop-in single classes accepted). And she is the energy behind the fundraiser. Read what she has to say about this important opportunity to dedicate your practice and make a contribution to an important cause:
This Memorial Day class is a special fundraiser class in honor of my friend and fellow yoga teacher Elizabeth Tonorezos Garnett.  Libby and I met in 2003 at our yoga teacher training in New York City, at Be Yoga/Yoga Works.  We saw each other through our 500-hour yoga teacher trainings, and continued on as teachers…remaining friends over the last decade.
Libby was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, FSGS,( Focal Segmental Gluomerulosclerosis), one year ago.  It has made carrying a child impossible for her body to do.  She has been blessed with many wonderful friends, one of whom is acting as her gestational surrogate.  She and her husband Jeffrey Garnet, are expecting a child this coming June, 2014.
Libby has asked all of her friends to join her in raising funds for direct research of FSGS by her doctor, Jai Radhakrishnan, M.D. of Columbia University Medical Center.  I felt it fitting to give to this fund–in a way that brought us together as lifelong friends…through the practice of YOGA!!  A portion of the proceeds from this class will be sent to the research fund, in honor of my dear friend, Elizabeth Tonorezos.  I hope that this will help to find a cure, and better treatments…so I won’t have to give Libby my kidney in another ten years!!
Please see Libby and Jeff’s story at www.ourpeainherpod.com
This class will be a fun, lighthearted class, with plenty of movement.  Come prepared to sweat, move, twist, bend and sway, build strength, and open your heart.  It will be a challenging vinyasa style class, and I will offer modifications for all levels.
12:15-1:15, Memorial Day, All Levels Welcome.

*“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India seva was believed to help one’s spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community.
