Jeanette Bacevius has been chanting kirtan since the early 2000s. Her first experience with chanting was at a Nada Yoga workshop in Stowe, VT, where she learned how to and experienced chanting traditional mantras in Sanskrit for the first time. She loved it and was hooked! She started chanting weekly at a kirtan held at the old Yoga Vermont in the Chace Mill and at Yoga Mountain in Montpelier. Soon she started leading chants. Jeanette met Krishna Das and invited him to lead his first kirtan in Vermont in 2003. Currently, she hosts and leads a weekly community kirtan every week at Evolution Yoga on Wednesday evenings and has been doing so for over four years now. Jeanette also has led and offered kirtan at other centers and events including at All Souls Interfaith Gathering and at the Vermont Hindu Temple. Jeanette has been told by many people that she has a way of creating a space where people feel welcome and lovingly encouraged to chant. Many people have chanted kirtan for the first time and many have led their first chant at kirtans with her. Chanting these ancient mantras can be a healing, powerful, meditative, invigorating, and transformative experience. Kirtan is not a performance but a spiritual and healing practice.
