Yoga Practice of the Month: Seva
August 29th, 2012 by Evolution Yoga

For some dedicated yogis, the entire practice of yoga is about Seva. Seva (pronounced say-va) is a Sanskrit word for service. It is the spiritual practice of selfless service and the desire to uplift others with no thought to what can be gained by doing so. The practice of Seva becomes a path to self-realization, the very essence of yoga.
At Evolution Yoga, our Seva practice consists of classes and programs designed to uplift the health and wellness of the community. Our community class is a small example of Seva.
We also practice Seva on a larger scale. For example, ourĀ organization of and participation in Vinyasa for Vermont raised more than $20,000 for Vermonters impacted by Hurricane Irene.
In September and throughout the year we will be raising awareness and funds for Hunger Free Vermont. September Seva activities include Community Class at Art Hop – all funds raised during this class will go directly to Hunger Free Vermont.
