Yoga in Chicago
Though I missed our studio, seeing my students, and friends, the past week I spent in Chicago was a blast.
Whenever you visit a new city, state, or country- I encourage you to look up the local yoga studio first. No matter where I am on the globe or in my life, yoga brings me home. Despite the geographic and cultural differences from place to place, yoga is universal- as is sangha, yoga community.
Through an internet search before my departure, I found Moksha Yoga Center, located only 10 minutes from our hotel.
Tantra Vinyasa class with Brenna at Moksha was one strong highlight of the trip for me and I even enjoyed joining a friend at her Bikram studio called Om on the Range.
The temperatures reached 105 in Chicago with the heat index last week. As Moksha Yoga Center does not have AC- both studios felt about the same, I dripped in sweat! I’m beginning to detect the importance and subtlety of agni (heat) coming from inside versus externally-and how greatly agni enhances the benefits of yoga/systems of the body.
Brenna warned that even on the hottest days, drinking too many iced beverages can squelch agni, which is needed even more on scorching days to aid digestion.
Yoga is finding a home all throughout the West as more and more people recognize the life-changing benefits of regular practice. Try yoga wherever you go!
Peace!
Jane
