Yoga for Runners
If you run regularly or have in the past, you know that high impact training can be tough on the body.
Did you know that yoga can help to correct muscle imbalances, align the joints, increase bone density, and lengthen and strengthen muscles to prevent pain and injury?
It’s the perfect compliment for all cardiovascular exercise (and can itself be cardiovascular).
Standing yoga poses lengthen and tone the hamstrings, gluts, abdomen, chest and arms. They correctly align the knee and strengthen the arches of the foot to provide better shock absorption and maintain healthy connective tissue in the foot and shin.
Runners Yoga classes tend to be cardiovascular, combining stamina, upper body, core strength, and lower body flexibility movements and can be used for conditioning.
Ideally, runners yoga will also contain passive poses which help to cultivate awareness of any resistance, promote release of tension and improve circulation in connective tissue to help you recover and rejuvenate from high impact training.
Yogic breath work and concentration exercises are very calming and can improve confidence, focus and positive pleasure in your athletic pursuits.
