Yoga: A cure for the rainy day blues
Grey day after grey day here in Burlington is leaving some people feeling a little depressed or unmotivated. With the sun hidden behind the clouds, it may take a little extra effort to feel happy this week but here are some simple, easy tips to help.
1. Stay Active: Yoga practice and other exercise will release serotonin and boost your mood. Yoga can always be practiced indoors while you’re stuck. Use music alongside practice if you’d like and let your self flow!
2. Turn on the lights. Avoid being in the dark which evokes a sense of sadness, dampness and being alone. Brightness! Natural sunlight through a window or full spectrum bulbs are best.
3. Eat well to nourish yourself; avoid the sugar and caffeine crash if you can.
4. Come to the studio and join the sangha, community. Whether you know others yet or not, being out in the world as a social being, helps to eliminate a sense of isolation.
Remember that when it is daytime, the sun is still shining even behind the clouds. So too the sun, warmth, and happiness, are present within you even when they appear missing or masked. Like the weather passes and changes, so too will the moment and your mood.
Do your best to stay consistent, optimistic, and open to these changes. This too shall pass!
Namaste!
