Tips for Backbends
March 30th, 2009 by Evolution Yoga
Begin by rooting evenly down through your foundation on the Earth (feet, sitting bones, knees, belly).- Lengthen the spine as you breathe
- Invite the bend to move from the low back, into t he middle back, up to the top center of your back
- Let the collar bones spread wide and the shoulders roll down the back
- Let the tail softly scoop to protect the low back
- The more your upper body contributes to the effort of the bend, the less likely you will be to over-arch the low back and cause injury
- Stay in the back bend as long as you are energized and present
- Lower down or rise up slowly and with control
- Rest
