Soul-Inspiring Yoga
On a Saturday morning at Evolution, the energy is buzzing and a lot can happen to inspire a great weekend for yoga students. A few years ago, a simple poem read by Jane Jarecki inspired a bigger idea for one group of friends. Holly, Martha, and Luann laid in Shavasana and listened to the words from “This Dance” by Jewel Mathieson, meditating on the idea of dance and its effect on the soul.
“We have come to be danced.
Not the nice, invisible, self-conscious shuffle,
but the matted hair flying, voodoo mama shaman shaking ancient bones dance.
The strip us from our casings, return our wings, sharpen our claws and tongues dance.
The shed dead cells and slip into the luminous skin of love dance.”
This morning was the start of what became Holly’s Birthday celebration at Evolution: a combination soul collage art show, valentine’s craft-making, and dancing extravaganza. The coming together of loved ones, both friends and family, was beautiful and inspiring. The celebration truly honored the words of the poet and brought an inspired idea from a Saturday morning yoga class to life. Thank you Holly, Martha, Luann, and all who shared this joy at the party and in spirit.

Happy Birthday Holly! I’m honored to have helped connect you with this poem that I heard during Kripalu Teacher Training. What a special class that was and an awesome party it inspired. Good for you for celebrating your sat guru and birthday! So nice to see you at the Davis the other day- sending LOVE

We came to be danced, shed inhibitions and dead cells, slipping into love dances to celebrate Holly! And we did!
