December 10th, 2008 by Evolution Yoga

If you’d like to practice yoga with your child and are just getting started, try SUNDANCE.

If you practice yoga, chances are you’ve done a sun salute, surya namaskar, also called vinyasa.

In children’s yoga, we sundance like this:

  • Inhale, stretch your arms overhead: SING: “HELLO TO THE SUN!”
  • Exhale and swan-dive down to the Earth: SING: “HELLO TO THE EARTH”
  • Look up toward the center of the circle (pike pose): SING: “HELLO TO MY FRIENDS”
  • Jump the body into Diving Board Pose (Chatrunga Dandasana)
  • Smile
  • Take a breath in
  • Lion’s Breath Exhale to lower on to the tummy
  • Inhale, snake pose (Bhujangasana)
  • Exhale, seed pose (Child’s, Balasana)
  • Frog jump to the hands (Ribbit if you’d like!)
  • Press into the feet, inhale to rise, Sun Breath in Mountain Pose
  • Return hands to Namate
  • :)
