Try this Metta meditation (silently or aloud) when you’re alone by the fire, driving in your car, walking, or in meditation. The Pali word ‘Metta‘ is often translated in English to ‘loving-kindness.’
Take one full, calm breath per line.
1. Affirm to yourself:
May I be happy
May I be healthy
May I have ease and well being
May I live in harmony and peace
May I be free
2. Picture someone or many people you love and affirm:
May you be happy
May you be healthy
May you have ease and well being
May you live in harmony and peace
May you be free
3. Picture someone you are neutral toward, someone you may not know but see often and affirm:
May you be happy
May you be healthy
May you have ease and well being
May you live in harmony and peace
May you be free
4. Picture someone who challenges you or someone you dislike and affirm:
May you be happy
May you be healthy
May you have ease and well being
May you live in harmony and peace
May you be free
5. To your surrounding community, state, country, world, human race, and planet Earth affirm: (imagine your intentions spreading forth into the world and eventually enveloping the globe )
