Nowness- belonging to the present time
Evolution Yoga’s theme for April 2009 is “nowness.”
Nowness: the quality or state of existing or belonging to the present time
Americans rarely stop throughout the day, to pause and notice what is. Even during yoga practice, we can move quickly from pose to pose.
Each posture, each breath, presents an opportunity to be here now and cultivate inner and outer awareness. When mind and body link through the breath there is a sense of wholeness. This is yoga, union.
When we practice yoga postures, we grant the body permission to be still, and the mind can clear. When the breath is smooth and deep because we are present and conscious, so too the mind is smooth and free. When the breath becomes rushed or stuck, the mind will follow.
As we move deeper into yoga, our state of mind reveals itself and each moment we have the opportunity to to settle the mind.
Nowness calls us to recognize that human life is short on Earth and though it includes despair, life is full of beauty and love.
If the present moment or posture is uncomfortable, what to do? Breathe! Relax! Watch your edge shift and all things change.
Shanti Om.
