Anusara Moment- Resonance

July 1st, 2009 by workingwellvt

A Sanskrit term, dhvani, means resonance. It’s a balance point, a meeting point where sound becomes something greater, more transcendent, more universal. It’s audible beauty.

Can we touch it or dictate when it happens? No, we can only create individual sounds and offer them to the whole and then listen for the resonance.

Yesterday I helped a student into scorpion pose, a forearm stand that turns into a backbend as the toes come down to the top of the head. I saw her draw her individual strength together across her back (and gather her courage!) and then sink her heart into a beautiful physical resonance. The result was pure dhvani. The meeting point of the individual self and the Universal.

Can our days be filled with dhvani? Yes! As we align our wonderful oneness with the flow of the Whole and experience delight.
