Anusara Moment- Intoxicating Joy

(The Fruits of Enlightenment series. Next week – Beauty)

Tommy, a 14-year old yellow lab, stayed with us for a week. By some accounts, he’s 98 in human years. Getting up from his blanket is an event. Once up, Tommy often freezes in place, legs quivering, unsure of where to go.

But put him anywhere near a swimming hole and the decades slough away. He finds a stick, drops it at my feet, and gazes at me, bewitched by the moment. Throw it!

Though I’m not sure it’s such a good idea, of course I throw the stick into the water.  I’m astounded and a bit worried as he leaps, bounds and splashes, hurling himself after it.

Tommy is so enraptured, he can’t remember that getting up off the floor hurts. He’s having a soul-stirring, rousing moment of intoxicating joy.

Most often, it’s a gloriously happy event or circumstance that invokes this transporting feeling. Occasionally, we can be driving ordinarily down the street or wake in the night and for no reason, complete delight abducts us.

Who cares about anything else. This is heaven. Can’t beat it.  Enjoy it.

As Tommy’s “mom” I can vouch for his joy. Thanks so much for sharing it with this wonderful Kula!
