yoga for Babies & Kids

happy kids doing yoga

Welcome to Evolution's Young Yogis program! Our Kids Yoga classes are specifically designed for children ages 6 weeks to 3rd grade. Children derive tremendous benefit from a yoga practice. It aids in the healthy development of young bodies and minds. And like their parents, kids gain an increased sense of balance, strength and well being through the practice of yoga.

Whether you are looking for a way to bond with your baby, tap into your toddler's imagination, or give your child tools to focus and find confidence, our children's yoga series offer a consistent way to bring yoga into your family's life.

Class Descriptions:

baby yoga classInfant Yoga and Massage (6 weeks - 6 months) is an interactive class for babies and their parents or caregivers. In this light-hearted, sweet class we introduce basic yoga poses and concepts through gentle stretches and song, as well as focus a portion of each class on infant massage. Activities increase body awareness, aid in digestion, and cultivate a more relaxed state for the baby. This class is a great way to meet new parents and form more of a community around your baby.

Baby Yoga (6-12 months) is a laughter-filled class for babies sitting and crawling. Baby yoga builds on the foundations set in infant yoga and massage (see above), although previous participation in infant yoga is not a necessity for joining this class. We use age-appropriate props, as well as songs and games, to build coordination, strength and balance for these young yogis. As a parent, you'll notice how instinctual yoga is to your little baby as they move into downward facing dog, star, and even tree pose!

happy kidNew Explorers Yoga (agile crawlers 10 - 18 months) -This class for young walkers will delight in song, stretching, and a discovery of spaces under, over, through and around yoga poses made by themselves as well as their parent/caregiver. Be prepared to move all around the room with your little yogi - we take a very light-hearted approach to "direction following" in this class by modeling activities and guiding the children into the activities, while still giving them the space to wander and explore on their own.

tots dancing in circleTots on the Move (18 mo - 2 yrs) – Physical play joins creativity in this toddler yoga and movement class. In addition to singing voices and stretching bodies, we will stretch imaginations as we fly and slither into new yoga worlds. Early musical rhythm is used as a tool for focusing the minds and bodies of this active age group. The Tots on the Move and Weekend Toddlers classes act as a bridge toward more direction-following classes such as our Kids Creative Yoga. We realize that all children have different capacities for led group activity at this age, and evolution teachers work with parents to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for growth and experiential learning.

Kids Creative Yoga blends yoga poses with imaginative games, storytelling and friendship-building activities. The end result: a fun, peaceful atmosphere where your child can feel confident to create and blossom. Your child will come away from Kids Creative Yoga more relaxed, focused and expressive physically and emotionally.

Here’s what parents are saying about the kids classes at evolution:

"Thanks so much Susan!

I can't tell you how much the classes at evolution mean to us... I absolutely love the opportunity to go to yoga class and take Reya with me during family yoga. That class has allowed me to go when normally I wouldn't be able to, letting me get in two classes a week rather than the usual, pitiful one class on the weekend when my husband is home (the class itself is not the pitiful part, its just only being able to go to one class that is). I also think that its really good for Reya to see me take some time for myself and get some exercise. She really enjoys it too - mostly she plays but sometimes she comes over and does poses with me, which I love! After we get home from class, she often goes around making up her own poses and yells out to me, "look mamma - yoga!" while she strikes a pose.

The kids creative class has also been a real joy! Reya just started playing, "going to yoga class" with her dolls. She gets them all dressed up, puts them in a wagon, and then pushes them to the "yoga class" in the living room. There she puts them on a big bouncy ball and sings (just like in class), makes them do down-dog, says "om", and then back in the wagon to go "home". Its absolutely adorable!

Thanks again!"
Miranda

“Just wanted to let you know how much the kids and I enjoyed your class today. We have tried several yoga classes for kids before and they all fell short of my expectations. You are the first teacher I've encountered who not only is a qualified yoga instructor, but also has a strong grasp of what is developmentally appropriate for the kids. We are all thrilled to get to share this experience with you. Thanks!”
-Lauren, Eliza (4 ½) and Rowan (2 ½)

“Thank you for a great class! Finn had a blast and even showed his dad tree pose and down dog when he came home. He really opened up during this class.”
-Tre, mother of Finn (21 months)
